She was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan
by artists. As a toddler, her parents recognized
that Susan possessed a gift for drawing and nurtured
that talent. From this creative environment, she
gleaned a fundamental technical education in architectural
design, drafting and the process of laying out blueprints.
Today, Susan attributes her skill in drawing and
watercolor painting to the patience and knowledge
of her mother and father. As an adult, she has pursued
her dream of a professional career in art; setting
the talent of her minds eye on the western horizon.
Now, a Contemporary
Graphic Artist Susan utilizes her inherent technical
ability to create unique illustrations for
commercial use. She has been commissioned by the
Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce and the “Hole
in the Ground” Cowboy Poet and Music Gathering
to design art used for posters and brochures. She
has also honored requests for artwork by riding
stables and trail horse outfitters, often creating
a specific graphite rendering, which she incorporates
into the template design; to be used in their business
stationary and signage.
As a commissioned Portraiture Artist,
Susan demonstrates a graceful sensibility in creating
portraits of people and animals. Dedicated to professionalism
and the integrity of her work, she breathes life
into her subjects with an infinite quality.
A featured Fine Artist of the Grand
Canyon, Susan has become a prolific artist in her
own right. Well known for her use of vibrant color
in her depictions of the Grand Canyon and her soulful
graphite renderings of cowboys and their horses in
every day life.
She
works primarily in her preferred mediums of graphite
or Prismacolor pencils. However, Susan is also proficient
in: soft pastel, airbrush, oil, acrylic, gouache
and watercolor painting, and pen and ink technique;
at times using a mixed media application to achieve
a desired effect.
Susan has donated countless hours
of personal time, and pieces of her artwork to help
raise funds for charitable organizations. A few of
these include: United Way of Northern Arizona, The
Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals
and domestic violence shelters. In 2008, Susan has
committed to donate a series of prints the local
Volunteer Fire Department, to be sold at benefit
events.
To her credit, Susan has exhibited
and sold many Artworks, and has acquired collectors
nationwide from Arizona and California to Florida,
Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Carolina.
She is a single mother of one son
and has three grandsons.
